Bill has been an elder since 1997. He and his wife, Carol, have been married 27 years and have two sons and one daughter-in-law. Professionally, Bill is a chemical engineer. He enjoys photography, reading, and the outdoors. He is a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts and has been in scouting more than 10 years. “The church is the hope of the world. The Truth of the Gospel has been entrusted to no other institution. We must be about the business of proclaiming that Truth to the lost, come what may.”

Joe Mathews has been an elder at Elmwood since 2002. He and Joyce moved to Lafayette in 1996 because of Joe’s work with Ice Cream Specialties. They have two married daughters and four grandchildren. Joe’s special interests are reading and playing golf (not necessarily in that order!). “I believe that the local congregation, as the body of Christ, has a responsibility to introduce Christ to the community around us and to provide our members with every opportunity and advantage to live by and grow in the fruit of the Spirit.”

Rick Swensen has been an elder at Elmwood since 1978. He is a retired psychology professor from Purdue University. He and Doris have been married 56 years, have 5 children and 8 grandchildren. He continues as a psychology consultant to the Veterans Administration and a member of the Governor’s Task Group on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Senile Dementias.

Don Vice is retired from the Purdue University Fire Department. He and Patty have been married 44 years and have two children and six grandchildren. Their major hobby is traveling together. Don also enjoys golf, woodworking, bowling, and Bible study. He has been an elder at Elmwood since 2000. His vision is that each member should realize that God has a special assignment for each of us, and he works tirelessly to that end.
